Today was one of the most devastating days in my life. As many of you know, I have been absent here for the most part. I had decided to focus on fewer things in order to preserve my health and sanity.
I started a dating site 2 years ago with little knowledge and a very limited budget. Two years later, I was still struggling to find a decent web person which was crucial to my site becoming a major player. I was so close but never quite there because I just could not find an honest and competent person to help me.
This afternoon, I found out that the most recent web guy I had hired erased part of my data base and changed my passwords out of anger. He deleted the ages of my members. I told him that I didn't need him any longer since he had screwed up some things on site and had paid him $100 to do so. I still owed him 100 but didn't feel obligated because he never even touched those areas of the list I had provided him.
So, what does this mean? That every member has to go in and manually input their age. Will they all do that ? Certainly they will not. A dating site without searchable members will die.
For this, I sacrificed two years of not having a social life, my health and partly my sanity and in the end it was for what? An angry guy to wipe out my dreams and hard work.
My only hope is that he made a backup of my site and is waiting for me to contact him with an offer. Well, I did and have not heard anything yet.
This is entirely my fault. I never backed my site up personally and always depended on others. Please, if any of you have an internet site, do not trust that others will necessarily have your best interest at heart.

missed you girl *hugs*
i hope it all works out for you
I was wondering where you've been.
Glad to see you're back, but sorry about the unfortunate bad news. I hope things start looking up for you.
*hugs*
@omgitsmackie - THanks, I guess I should cry but I am still in shock!@XxWiltedRosexX - Thanks so much!
I am so sorry to hear that. Hopefully people who are really into the site will go ahead and just put their age in... I hope it works out.
Good to see you're still alive
Did you have a hosting company or did the guy run/own the server himself? Any reputable hosting companies will make backups of the data on their servers automatically at least daily, so you should get in contact with them if at all possible instead of your 'web guy'.
OOooh, I'm so sorry!!!! If you want to keep trying to build it up I would say using your Xanga to promote it isn't a bad idea, plenty of people here using dating sites. Maybe you might even want to try to hook something up with Datingish to promote it.
Wow, that sucks. I've had a similiar experience watching a board of directors take a 14 year investment of my life down the toilet. Maybe this setback will become a launching point into a more successful endeavor for you. I'm hoping so.
Ouch, sorry that had to happen. I hope everything works out.
That bites! It's hard to really trust anyone on here, you try and a lot of the times it works out great. If I knew anything at all about that stuff I would help, but I know nothing about setting sites up. Sorry you spent so much time for 2 years and now it's gone. Hopefully you learned a lot in the process. Hang in there!
@AlterEgo909 - not a bad idea.. but I think that Xanga would boot me off if I tried that!!
@wherethefishlives - Thanks!! Just found out that a web guy I tried to hire but he did NOTHING for me was the most valuable of all. He did a back up of my site. So, have not lost too many profiles!!! Will see.
Am thinking about doing a paid dating site. Free is great if you have the right software but this is too much maintenance and hard to work on.
@weakerlink - Sorry about what happened to you! I think it was a wake up call and looks like someone else did a backup so not all is lost I THINK!!! @UnworthyofHisgrace - Thanks for your kind words!
@cocainecupcakes - Thanks so much!! Am working on that!@JCarr80 - hosting company told me they do not backup since I have a dedicated server and it is my web guys responsiblity to do it.
@watersedge62 - People sell stuff on their pages, and promote their outside sites, I don't see why not, but you'd have to check with the xanga team lol
PM Me
I have a good company that could help you recover and get back on board... (It is certainly worth talking to them.)
i'm sorry you had to learn that lesson. but yeah, always smile pretty and watch your back!
LONG TIME NO SPEAK
I'm sorry that happened. Some people can do unscrupulous things. I hope things work out. Although, this was a negative experience, at least you gained some insight and learned something from it.
@Curse_of_Greyface - HI! Thanks... I am switching over to a paid site. Should take place today and tomorrow!
@dear_TOMORROW - Hi there! Yes have been so busy that I have had little time here:)
@TrueBritt - So true Britt!!!!
Thanks!!
